Red Hat Releases JBoss Enterprise Portal Platform 4.3

New features support wide range of composite applications

Red Hat has announced the global availability of JBoss Enterprise Portal Platform 4.3, an integrated and standards-based open source platform for hosting, portal-based applications, and rich web presences. JBoss Enterprise Portal Platform 4.3 has improved server performance, high availability and clustering and simple, straightforward installation and configuration.

New features in JBoss Enterprise Portal Platform 4.3 include:

- Compliance with JSR-286 specification: JBoss Enterprise Portal Platform 4.3 fully supports the Portlet 2.0 (JSR-286) specification. This new standard facilitates a more dynamic user experience through improvements in portlet-to-portlet communication, caching support and handling of Ajax frameworks.

- JBoss Portlet Bridge: JBoss Enterprise Portal Platform 4.3 also introduces JBoss Portlet Bridge, an implementation of the JSR-301 specification, which supports JavaServer Faces (within a portlet and with added enhancements to support other web frameworks. With JBoss Portlet Bridge, Java developers can get their JSF web application running in a portal environment quickly without worrying about the underlying portlet development, portlet concepts, or the API.

- Portlet tools: In addition to the release of JBoss Enterprise Portal Platform 4.3, Red Hat will be including a new set of portlet plug-ins and wizards in the upcoming release of JBoss Developer Studio 2.0: These new plug-ins will make it easier to create and deploy portlets for both standard JSR-286 and Portlet Bridge-based portlets.

Designed to support a broad range of composite applications, from small departmental-focused mashups to enterprise-class site presences, JBoss Enterprise Portal Platform can deliver the benefits of a no-license-fee-platform combined with a flexible and scalable underlying platform. Additionally, the JBoss Enterprise Portal Platform delivers high-value features at a fraction of the cost of proprietary solutions and, without a large number of dependencies, portal applications can be deployed quickly, improving time to value.
