USaveLED's WalaLight Wins Innovation Award At 2014 LINK LTC & Senior Living Conference

The revolutionary WalaLight System, developed by USaveLED, LLC, was selected as the most innovative product in the elder care and long-term care field for 2014 during a national industry conference organized by Lincoln HealthCare

BOCA RATON, Fla., Aug. 14, 2014 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- USaveLED, LLC, a leading supplier of LED lighting products, was selected as the first place award recipient in the annual Lincoln Healthcare LINK Long-Term Care and Senior Living Conference's  Innovation Competition.  The 2014 Innovation Award was presented to USaveLED in recognition of the company's invention of the neo-natural WalaLight System.

The adaptive LED lighting system is designed to provide the appropriate color of light at various times throughout the day or night to produce biological and behavioral benefits for individuals that may otherwise not be exposed to natural sunlight and darkness.  The smart Kelvin-changing technology can be adjusted between bright white light and warm light, affecting sleep, alertness, performance, behaviors and health. This makes the WalaLight System particularly effective for individuals who lack adequate natural sunlight exposure, such as the elderly, students, prisoners and shift workers.  The revolutionary lighting technology is also especially useful for older individuals due to the fact that aging eyes typically only transmit 25% of the light through the lens as compared to a younger person.

The patent-pending WalaLight System is the first and only ambient lighting system utilizing energy-efficient, state-of-the-art LED technology to provide the neo-natural light required for normal brain and body function.  Design of the WalaLight was based on brain research identifying a linkage between exposure to natural bright sunlight and the secretion of key hormones controlling daily body functions, including the 24 hour circadian rhythm, heart and pulse rate, as well as a number of other key body and brain functions.  Traditional lighting does not provide the type of light required by the body to properly regulate these functions.

"It was very exciting to be recognized by the elder care industry with a first place finish in Lincoln Healthcare's annual innovation contest," says Rodney Smith, Chief Technology Officer of USaveLED.  "Our WalaLight System is based on recent brain research and is the first ambient light designed to deliver the light spectrum required by the human brain to properly control brain and body functions. Walalight is not an incremental improvement in lighting.  It is the most significant innovation in lighting since the invention of the light bulb."

In addition to health and behavioral benefits, USaveLED's WalaLight System is a cost-effective LED lighting system that pays for itself rapidly through dramatic electricity and maintenance savings, as well as light fixtures that last over 50,000 hours, equating to an approximate 12 year lifespan if used consecutively for 12 hours per day.

The LINK conference took place in Chicago from July 13-15, 2014.  The two day conference brings together solution partners from some of the leading product and service companies serving the elder care industry so providers can make side-by-side comparisons, helping long-term care and senior living facilities effectively and efficiently operationalize new initiatives. USaveLED was selected for the Innovation Award from a field of over 50 competitors, each providing innovative solutions designed to strengthen facility operations.  An independent panel of five judges included experts in the elder care industry, including CEO's and VPs of major healthcare, elder care and long-term care facility companies, as well as an editor of McKnight, a business news magazine serving the long-term care and assisted living industry .

"We were honored to win the Innovation Award at the LTC Conference in Chicago," explains Harry Zuker, CEO of USaveLED. "We worked with scientists and engineers for 18 months in R&D to make the best lighting system possible to adjust a human's circadian rhythm.  It is awesome to see the response by the market to this new scientific-based product that promotes health and well-being."

The WalaLight System is available in a variety of shapes and sizes and can seamlessly replace traditional lighting fixtures, including fluorescent tubes and incandescent lighting.  Lights can be recessed, flush-mounted or suspended and can be used on ceilings and walls, with remote control access making it easy to adjust lighting color or dimness with the touch of a button.  The company is also introducing a new Linux platform scheduler, which will automatically adjust lights to provide maximum health benefits throughout the day without user intervention. WalaLights are intended to create healthy indoor spaces, improving behaviors while controlling costs.

When talking IoT we often focus on the devices, the sensors, the hardware itself. The new smart appliances, the new smart or self-driving cars (which are amalgamations of many ‘things’).
