Azure CLI Day 18 – site delete

bash-azure

In my previous three posts I showed you how to change the scaling mode of a Windows Azure web site (http://thinkfirstcodelater.com/blog/?p=3143), how change the number of instances a site is running on (http://thinkfirstcodelater.com/blog/?p=3157), and how to change the size of the instance(s) the site is running on (http://thinkfirstcodelater.com/blog/?p=3170) using the Windows Azure cross platform command line tools. In this post I’ll show you how to delete a Windows Azure web site.

Once again, just a reminder that I’m using the command line tools on a MacBook Air with OSX (Mountain Lion) installed, and I’m using Google Chrome as my default browser. However, the experience should be identical on Windows and Linux as well.

Open an instance of your command line (Terminal, Bash, Command Prompt, etc.) and type the following:

azure site delete -h

As you can see, this is the command you can use to delete a Windows Azure web site. The only piece of information you must provide is the name of the web site you want to delete. Now enter the following, substituting where appropriate:

azure site delete “[YOUR WEB SITE NAME]“

In my case I entered the following:

azure site delete “antares101″

Since I didn’t specify -q or –quiet, the tool will ask me to confirm the deletion of the web site.

Once I enter y, my web site gets deleted. This can be confirmed by going to the Web Sites portion of the Windows Azure management portal.

If you would prefer to bypass the confirmation prompt, you can enter the following into the CLI:

azure delete -q “[YOUR WEB SITE NAME]“

This wraps up our look at how to manage Windows Azure web sites from the cross platform command line tools. In my next post I’ll start diving into managing Windows Azure mobile services.

Did you know you can try Windows Azure for free for 30 days? Just go to http://aka.ms/thecloud and sign up.

And as digital natives make up more and more of the modern workforce, the appetite for user-friendly, cloud-based services grows. The center of work is shifting to the user and to the cloud. But managing a proliferation of SaaS, web, and mobile apps running on any number of clouds and devices is unwieldy and increases security risks. Steve Wilson, Citrix Vice President of Cloud,...
