Ingres Customers Peerless Foods and Save Mart Named ‘InfoWorld 100’ Top IT Solutions for 2009

Ingres Corporation, the leading open source database company and pioneer of the New Economics of IT, today congratulates customers Peerless Foods and Save Mart on being named as InfoWorld 100 top IT solutions for 2009. IDG’s InfoWorld awards honor companies for IT projects that exemplify intelligent, creative uses of technology to meet business and technical objectives.

Peerless Foods, Australia’s largest privately owned producer of edible oils, fats and margarines, is recognized for developing an ERP system based on open source software from Ingres and Jaspersoft. The project, initiated by CIO Adrian Hamilton, automates end-to-end business processes, including forecasting, ordering, production, packaging, and distribution.

Save Mart, the second-largest grocery chain in California, was honored for migrating its retail operations from proprietary solutions to an open source-based architecture centered around Ingres and SUSE Linux as a result of its acquisition of 125 additional grocery stores. The project was led by Save Mart CIO James Sims.

“We’d like to sincerely congratulate Peerless Foods and Save Mart – working with both CIOs that have made open source and Ingres Database a critical part of their operations has been an exciting endeavor,” said Deb Woods, vice president of product management, Ingres. “Ingres is in the business of helping enterprises innovate and save big on IT costs and it is rewarding to work with courageous CIOs like Adrian and James who aren’t afraid to stand up to the Big Software model and say ‘enough is enough’.”

Every year, the InfoWorld 100 Awards celebrate 100 IT organizations that have implemented and integrated technologies in innovative ways in pursuit of concrete business goals. These 100 real-world projects stand as proof that striking a new path in IT can reap deep organizational rewards. Nominations were submitted by InfoWorld readers, technology partners, and end-user companies in late-summer. To be considered, projects must use multiple technologies in innovative ways to serve well-defined business goals. Profiles of winners, along with InfoWorld's editorial analysis and insight, are available at www.InfoWorld.com.

“This year’s recipients of InfoWorld’s highest honor are shining examples of IT projects undertaken by tech leaders committed to pushing their organizations forward,” said Jason Synder, InfoWorld Features Editor.

Digital Transformation is much more than a buzzword. The radical shift to digital mechanisms for almost every process is evident across all industries and verticals. IoT is rapidly becoming mainstream as more and more investments are made into the platforms and technology. As this movement continues to expand and gain momentum it creates a massive wall of noise that can be difficult to sift through. There are so many connected products already in place today with many hundreds more on the h...
The standardization of container runtimes and images has sparked the creation of an almost overwhelming number of new open source projects that build on and otherwise work with these specifications. Of course, there's Kubernetes, which orchestrates and manages collections of containers.
